ZRAY has unveiled its fastest case erector yet: a high-speed machine that erects and seals 40+ cases per minute (CPM) with dual-head technology, aimed at beverage and canning facilities where line speed is set by the filler, not the erector.

Designed Around the Filler’s Speed

In beverage and canning plants, the filler sets the pace. A modern canning line at 600 cans/min on 24-can cases needs 25 CPM of case erecting capacity just to keep up — and if the erector is the constraint, the whole line throttles down to it. The new 40+ CPM erector gives those lines a 60% headroom over a 25 CPM requirement, so erecting is never the bottleneck, even during promotions or when blanks run at the edge of tolerance.

How 40+ CPM Is Achieved

The machine uses dual-head erecting with parallel workstations:

1. Dual-Head Parallel Erection

Two forming heads work alternately — while one head erects a case, the other is already positioned for the next blank. This halves the effective per-case cycle time compared to a single-head machine at the same mechanical speed:

• Head A: pick blank → erect → square → discharge
• Head B: pick blank → erect → square → discharge
• The two sequences overlap by design, so the machine never waits for a single head to complete its full cycle.

2. High-Speed Blank Feeding

• Servo-driven magazine feed with continuous pick: the servo picker stays synchronized with the forming heads instead of cycling between them.
• Anti-double-feed verification at 40+ CPM requires faster sensing: the machine uses dual photo-eyes with a 2 ms response at the magazine exit, rejecting double picks in-cycle.
• Magazine capacity of 200 blanks (single-wall), so at 40 CPM the magazine runs 5 minutes between loads — operators top it up without stopping the line.

3. Sealing That Keeps Up

• Hot-melt version: 6-gun glue system with closed-loop temperature control and speed-compensated bead patterns, holding seal quality from 8 to 42 CPM.
• Tape version: dual tape heads on top and bottom with servo-driven cut timing, handling the higher throughput without tape tail issues.

Integration Notes for Beverage Lines

• Sync signal input: the erector accepts a filler-sync signal (dry contact or fieldbus) so it ramps speed with the filler automatically.
• Discharge at filler height: the discharge conveyor is adjustable 700–1,000 mm to match case packer infeeds.
• Partial-speed operation: below 10 CPM demand, the machine runs single-head mode to save energy and wear — the energy-efficient motor package makes the low-speed running efficient.
