ZRAY has released a heavy-duty case erector engineered specifically for jumbo corrugated boxes — the large-format shipping cases used for appliances, furniture, building materials, and industrial parts. The machine erects boxes up to 1,200 × 800 × 600 mm at up to 10 CPM, a size class that most standard erectors simply cannot handle.

Why Jumbo Boxes Need a Dedicated Machine

Standard case erectors are built for box widths up to 400–500 mm. Pushing them beyond their design envelope leads to:

• Blank sagging: a large single-wall blank sags under its own weight in the magazine and feed path, causing double-feeds and mis-feeds.
• Fold geometry problems: long flap edges need uniform folding force along the whole length; standard folding shoes apply force at points and distort large flaps.
• Machine frame flex: the forces involved in erecting a 6 kg blank are much higher than those for a 200 g E-flute box. Standard frames flex, and case squareness drifts.
• Downstream handling: heavy jumbo cases need reinforced squaring and sealing to survive palletizing and transport.

Heavy-Duty Design Features

The new jumbo erector addresses each limitation with dedicated engineering:

• Reinforced monoblock frame with 5 mm steel plate in the forming area and welded cross-bracing, holding frame deflection under 0.3 mm at full load.
• Anti-sag magazine with a segmented bottom and side air jets: blanks are floated on a thin air film as they enter the feed, preventing the sag-induced double-feeds common on large formats.
• Long-travel folding system: each bottom flap is folded by a servo-driven folding arm with a full-length contact edge, so force is applied evenly along the flap — no point-pressure distortion.
• High-torque squaring station: after erection, four corner pressers square the box with up to 80 kg of force per corner, then the bottom is sealed with tape or hot-melt.
• Oversized blank feed: the magazine holds up to 60 jumbo blanks and can be loaded by forklift directly, since hand-loading large blanks at floor level is not ergonomic.

Integration with Palletizing

Jumbo case erectors usually feed directly into palletizing cells or robotic case packers. The machine includes:

• Height-adjustable discharge conveyor (500–1,000 mm) to match downstream equipment.
• Photo-eye interlock so the erector only cycles when the downstream station is ready — no case pile-up at the interface.
• Optional case turner for boxes that need 90° rotation before palletizing.

For plants running mixed jumbo and standard formats, the jumbo erector complements the existing single-piece case erector and three-piece case erector range, sharing the same PLC platform and HMI.
