ZRAY has upgraded the safety architecture across its entire case former range, with CE-compliant protective enclosures now standard on all machines. The new guarding package meets the requirements of the EU Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) and harmonized standard EN ISO 12100 / EN 415-10, and it is verified by a notified body on each machine type.

What the New Enclosure Package Includes

1. Full-Perimeter Guarding

• Fixed and interlocked guards around all moving parts: folding area, sealing station, and discharge.
• Interlocked access doors with safety switches (positive mode) that stop the machine in under 200 ms when opened.
• Transparent polycarbonate panels so operators can monitor the process without opening guards — most interventions are now visible-and-avoid rather than open-and-inspect.

2. Redundant Safety Circuit

• Dual-channel safety relay monitoring both guard-switch channels; a single fault in either channel triggers a safe state rather than silent failure.
• Category 3 / PL d performance level per EN ISO 13849-1 for the safety functions.
• Emergency stop circuits rated per EN ISO 13850, with e-stops at both the machine and the HMI panel.

3. Ergonomic Access Without Compromise

Safety guarding fails in practice when operators defeat it to reach the machine. The new enclosures are designed so the most frequent interventions — blank reload, jam clear, tape/glue head service — are reachable through guarded access points without disabling the safety system:

• Quick-release jam-clearing panel on the folding area: opening it triggers a reduced-speed (creep) mode instead of full stop, so the operator clears the jam with the machine in a controlled state.
• Tool-less guard openings for reload points, with safety switches on each.
• Service mode with key switch: for maintenance, a key-operated service mode allows supervised low-speed running with the guards open, logged in the PLC’s audit trail.

Compliance Documentation

Each machine ships with:

• Declaration of Conformity (CE) referencing the Machinery Directive and applicable harmonized standards.
• Risk assessment report per EN ISO 12100, covering the specific machine configuration.
• Safety function verification report per EN ISO 13849-1 (Category 3, PL d).
• User instructions including the safety chapter and residual-risk summary.

Impact on Operator Training and Audits

For buyers, the upgrade simplifies two things:

• Compliance audits: the CE documentation package matches what plant safety auditors and notified-body inspectors expect; no gaps to chase.
• Operator training: the visible-and-avoid design reduces the temptation to run with guards open, which is the most common safety violation on case erectors.

The guarding standard applies across the range: single-piece case erector, three-piece case erector, double-head high-speed case former, and the rigid box capping machine.
