ZRAY Debuts Display Tray and 4-Corner Glued Carton Erectors (25–30 CPM, Hot-Melt 150–180 °C) for Supermarket POS | ZRAY
Retail-ready packaging fails on the shelf, not in the plant. A display tray that collapses under a 15 kg stack, or a promotional carton whose printed face drifts more than 2 mm, reads as a defect to the buyer even when the case blank itself is sound. Traditional tape-sealed RSC cases also force store staff to cut and re-handle cartons at the display, adding labour and damaging the print. ZRAY’s new ZR-30T platform answers both problems with two machine families — a self-locking display tray / POS tray former and a 4-corner hot-melt glued carton erector running 25–30 CPM with programmable glue dots at 150–180 °C.
Display Tray vs 4-Corner Glued vs Composite
The choice between tape, four-corner hot-melt and a composite bond is a trade-off between appearance, load security and material cost. Tape is cheap but leaves a visible line and must be cut open; the 4-corner bond gives a clean, glue-only tray that stores can lift straight onto the shelf; the composite process adds a tamper-evident tape strip over the glued corners for heavy club-store stacks.
| Process | Bond strength | Appearance | Material cost | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tape seal (50/75 mm) | Medium, single strip | Visible tape line | Low | Standard transit RSC |
| 4-corner hot-melt | High, 4 points | Clean, no tape | Medium | Promo / club packs |
| Hot-melt + tape composite | Very high | Clean + tamper line | Higher | Heavy 5-layer BC stacks |
The 4-corner bond uses 0.3–0.6 g of adhesive per dot, 4 dots per case, curing in 2–4 s. Glue-dot coordinates are taught in the HMI, so a 250–550 mm tray and a 200–400 mm promo carton share one recipe bank without mechanical changeover.
Retail Shelf Requirements
Club-store and supermarket buyers specify shelf load, stack stability and print registration before listing a SKU. The ZR-30T was qualified against these retail tests on 5-layer BC board at 30 CPM.
| Requirement | Target | ZR-30T capability |
|---|---|---|
| Shelf load (static) | 15–25 kg per tray | 5-layer BC, 700–1,000 g/m² |
| Stack height | 5 layers, no topple | Glue cure verified at 4 s |
| Print-face alignment | ≤ 2 mm drift | PLC-registered forming plate |
| Easy-tear opening | Required on promo | Pre-creased tear strip supported |
Buyers run static load (palletised, 24 h) and dynamic load (forklift vibration, 1 h) stack tests at 5-high before approval. The four-corner bond passed both on 900 g/m² BC board, while the tray base stayed within the 2 mm print tolerance through the run.

PLC Alarm Codes — Tray & Glue
| Code | Description | Typical cause | Field action |
|---|---|---|---|
| AL-04 | Forming jam | Mis-set platen, warped blank | Clear jam, re-set platen to board + 0.5 mm |
| AL-05 | Hot-melt nozzle clog | Charred glue, cold start | Purge nozzle, raise temp to 170 °C, clean tip |
| AL-06 | Corner not adhered | Low glue, mis-registered dot | Check 0.3–0.6 g/dot, re-teach dot position |
| AL-03 | Pickup miss | Worn cup, board warp | Replace cup, re-square magazine |
These four codes cover the retail-specific failure modes; AL-01, AL-02, AL-07–AL-10 from the ZR-40H family apply unchanged because the vacuum and safety architecture is shared.
Preventive Maintenance Schedule
| Interval | Tasks |
|---|---|
| Daily | Drain FRL bowl; verify 150 NL/min; purge hot-melt nozzle; check glue level; test E-stop |
| Weekly | Clean glue filter; inspect forming plate; lubricate guides; check dot alignment |
| Monthly | Replace glue filter; descale melt tank; calibrate dot position; torque frame bolts |
| Quarterly | Overhaul glue head; replace suction cups; grease gearbox; verify PLC I/O |
| Annually | Replace main bearings; change gearbox oil; insulation-test panel; full glue-system flush |
The hot-melt path needs its own cleaning cadence: the glue filter is changed monthly and the melt tank is descaled quarterly, because charred adhesive is the main cause of AL-05 in promo runs.
Model Selection for Retail Lines
For high-mix promo runs built on three-piece blanks, our Three-Piece Case Erector handles the same 3–9 mm board range on a separate lane and shares the ZR-30T spare-parts platform. When the same line must also close and seal filled retail cartons, the Rigid Box Capping Machine pairs with the ZR-30T for a clean top seal without re-handling.
