Three-year Framework Agreement Covers Joint Development, Technology Transfer, and Localized Manufacturing Support for Middle Eastern Market

Zray Machinery has formalized a long-term technical cooperation agreement with a major overseas packaging enterprise, establishing a three-year framework for joint development of carton forming technology tailored to regional market requirements in the Middle East. The agreement, signed following eighteen months of preliminary technical discussions and successful pilot deployments, encompasses collaborative product development, technology transfer arrangements, and the establishment of localized manufacturing and service support capabilities.

The overseas partner is a well-established packaging group with manufacturing facilities and distribution networks across multiple countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council region. Its operations span corrugated carton production, flexible packaging, and contract packaging services for the food and beverage, logistics, and consumer goods sectors. The group identified carton forming automation as a strategic capability gap, with growing demand from its customer base for consistent, high-quality formed cartons that could not be reliably supplied through manual assembly at commercially viable cost.

Structure of the Cooperation

The agreement is organized around three primary work streams. The first covers joint technical development, under which engineers from both organizations will collaborate on customizing Zray’s carton forming platform to accommodate packaging formats and materials commonly specified in the Middle Eastern market, including specific board grades sourced from regional paper mills and carton dimensions aligned with local logistics standards. Prototype evaluation and field testing will be conducted at the partner’s facilities with Zray engineering support.

The second work stream addresses technology transfer and localized manufacturing. During the initial phase, completed machines will be shipped from Zray’s production facility while the partner’s technical staff undergo training at Zray’s factory in China. In the second year, the agreement envisions gradual transition to partial local assembly of selected standard models, with Zray supplying core forming modules while the partner sources locally manufactured frame structures, guarding, and ancillary components subject to Zray’s quality approval. This phased approach is designed to build local technical capability while ensuring that forming precision and reliability are maintained throughout the transition.

The third work stream establishes a joint after-sales service infrastructure, with Zray-certified technicians based at the partner’s facilities providing installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair services for machines deployed in the region. This local service presence is expected to significantly reduce response times and spare parts lead times compared to support delivered from Zray’s headquarters. The agreement also includes provisions for annual joint review meetings to assess progress against objectives and adjust work priorities based on market developments. Both companies have expressed confidence that the cooperative framework will serve as a foundation for an enduring partnership extending well beyond the initial three-year term.
