ZRAY has introduced a new fully automatic bottom-tape case former built around a single idea: changeovers that do not stop the line. The machine erects, squares, and tape-seals the bottom of RSC-style cases at up to 18 CPM, and a full box-size changeover takes under 90 seconds with zero tools.

Why Instant Changeover Matters

Most lines that run multiple box sizes handle changeover one of two ways: they stop for 10–20 minutes while an operator adjusts guides and glue heads with wrenches, or they run a dedicated machine per size. Both approaches cost money — the first in lost throughput, the second in floor space and capital.

ZRAY’s new machine solves this with servo-driven guide positioning. All side guides, depth stops, and the tape head are driven by servos that home to coordinates stored in the PLC recipe library. The operator calls up a recipe on the 10-inch HMI, the machine repositions itself, and the first case out is already within tolerance.

Tape Head Details

The bottom-sealing station uses a zero-waste tape head: when the machine stops, the tape is cut precisely at the end of the previous case, so there is no partial-length leader to throw away at every restart. A vacuum wiper arm presses the tape tails down on both case ends, eliminating the “dog-ear” tails that cause jams at downstream conveyors and palletizers.

For plants that switch between tape and hot-melt, the machine frame accepts a bolt-on hot-melt kit, so the same base unit can be converted in one shift without welding or new guards.
